Redbeard

Photography taken at the Machane Yehuda Fruits and Vegetables Market in Jerusalem. This is the guy that comes all Friday evenings to announce the marketeers that they cannot commercialize anymore because it’s time for resting, the Shabbat.  He goes with a metal Shofar (horn) to make noise and yells: “Shabat Kodesh” (asking for the “Sanctity of the Rest” to be kept)

As for the Redbeard, it’s a reference to Hayreddin Barbarossa (1478-1546), a privateer and Ottoman admiral who dominated the Mediterranean for decades.
